Australia pace bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile has admitted that his chances of playing Test cricket are “fading”, but refused to entirely rule out his chances of featuring in the longest format of the game.
Coulter-Nile, who is currently recovering from a back injury, has never represented Australia in Test cricket. Should his name be included in the mix though, he will be competing against a number of other fast bowlers for a spot in the squad.
“It’s fading, but it’s still there,” he told Fox Sports News 500. “I’ve got such a long way to go now, especially with all these other young quicks coming through it’s going to be hard work. It’s what we’re in the game for, to try and prove ourselves against the best.”
Coulter-Nile also admitted that it is frustrating to be sitting on the sidelines once again. The 29-year-old has been plagued with injuries over the last 12 months and is currently nursing a lumbar bone stress injury.
“It’s really frustrating,” he added. “This one’s probably the most frustrating one, stress fractures, six months. It’s been a lot of couch time. It’s pretty disappointing.”
