South Africa have brought in uncapped all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius as a replacement for pace spearhead Dale Steyn, who was ruled out of the ongoing series against Australia due to a right shoulder injury.
Steyn is expected to be out of action for six months as he is set to undergo surgery after being diagnosed with a “fracture of the bone in the shoulder joint” on the second day of the first Test in Perth.
Pretorious, who made his ODI debut in September, has played in 36 first-class matches and scored 1963 runs, which includes four centuries and 13 fifties, at an average of 43.62. He has also taken 115 wickets, which includes four five-wicket hauls, at an average of 22.27.
In the first three rounds of the Sunfoil Series, South Africa’s first-class competition, the 27-year-old, who represents Lions, has made scores of 87, 80, 96, 28 and 72. Furthermore, he has also claimed eight wickets, six of which came in one innings against the Warriors.
South Africa currently hold a 1-0 series lead heading into the second Test in Hobart, which starts on November 12, as they crushed Australia by 177 runs in the first Test.
