It was a day to forget for the West Indies as India’s pace duo of Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav sliced through their batting line-up smooth like butter.
Shami joined a very exclusive club on Friday as well as he equalled Venkatesh Prasad’s record of being the fastest Indian pace bowler to take 50 Test wickets. Both Shami and Prasad took 13 Tests to accomplish the feat.
Starting off the day on 31/1, the West Indies struggled right from the get-go and subsequently began losing wickets at regular intervals.
West Indies opener Kraigg Brathwaite tried to keep India at bat for as long as he could, but in the end, he was caught behind off the bowling of Yadav for 74, which came off 218 balls and included seven boundaries.
Wicketkeeper Shane Dowrich was the only other batsman to offer some resistance, but he ended up being stranded on 57 not out, which came off 79 balls and included 10 boundaries, as the West Indies were bowled out for 243.
This gave India a 323-run lead, the second-highest lead India have accumulated in the first innings of a Test match in the Caribbean.
Shami and Yadav picked up four wickets apiece, while Amit Mishra chipped in with two.

Being made to follow on, the West Indies found themselves in deep trouble once again as Brathwaite was trapped lbw off the bowling of Ishant Sharma for just two runs.
Darren Bravo and Rajendra Chandrika put together an unbeaten 19-run stand before stumps was called.
Bravo finished on 10 off 38 balls, which included two boundaries, while Chandrika remained undefeated on nine off 35 deliveries, which included two boundaries.
Sharma was the only bowler to take a wicket.
The West Indies ended day three on 21/1 and will continue batting on Sunday at 10:00 local time or 14:00 GMT.
