The Jamaica Tallawahs had lost nearly half their team with only two runs on the board, but despite their obvious disadvantage, all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and captain Chris Gayle not only rescued them, but also led them to a five-wicket win over the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
Gayle would have been thrilled with his decision to bowl first as only Jason Mohammed and Chris Lynn had an impact with the bat for the Amazon Warriors.
Mohammed scored an unbeaten 46, which came off 51 balls and included one boundary and two sixes, while Lynn made 33 off 18 deliveries, which included five boundaries and a six.
With Sohail Tanvir and Dwayne Smith being the only other batsmen to reach double figures, the Amazon Warriors were restricted to 128/6 off their 20 overs.
Dale Steyn and Imad Wasim picked up two wickets apiece, while Al Hasan chipped in with one.
Chasing 129 to win, the Tallawahs were in all sorts of trouble at the end of the first over as Chadwick Walton was caught behind off the bowling of Sohail Tanvir on the second ball. Some lazy running by Andre McCarthy saw him run out by Chris Barnwell the very next ball. Two balls later, Tanvir struck again as he removed Rovman Powell for a duck.
Kumar Sangakkara’s stay at the crease did not last long at all as he was caught behind off the bowling of debutant Ali Khan for a duck.
With the Tallawahs reeling at 2/4, Al Hasan and Andre Russell began to steer their side back in the right direction, but just when everything seemed to back on track, Russell was dismissed by Veerasammy Permaul for 24. D
Despite the loss of Russell, Al Hasan and Gayle amassed an unbeaten 87-run partnership, during which Al Hasan brought up his half-century, to lead the Tallawahs to an incredible come-from-behind victory with 25 balls to spare.

Al Hasan ended up making 54 off 47 balls, which included seven boundaries, while Gayle remained undefeated on 45 off 29 deliveries, which included two boundaries and four sixes.
Tanvir was the most successful bowler with two wickets, while Khan and Permaul claimed one wicket each.
