Shastri applied for the head coach job, but it is unknown whether he made it on the shortlist

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) received 57 applications for the vacant head coach position, but only 21 of those applicants have been included on the shortlist.

BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke trimmed down the list and it will now be passed on to the BCCI’s cricket advisory committee, which comprises of former Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. Sanjay Jagdale, who has served as BCCI secretary in the past, is also part of the committee.

The cricket advisory committee will look through the remaining candidates and are expected to submit their choice for head coach by Wednesday.

While the BCCI did not say who had been cut or who made it through to the shortlist, some of the people who applied for the position include Ravi Shastri, Anil Kumble, Sandeep Patil and Stuart Law.

According to the BCCI, all candidates that applied for the head coach job must have coached at either the international or first-class level. They added that “it is preferred that the candidate should be qualified through a certification/assessment program conducted by any of the Full Member countries, and currently possess such a valid certification”.

It is also understood that a final shortlist of applicants will be interviewed by the BCCI before the board makes a decision on who will be India’s new head coach.
