The Sunrisers Hyderabad were crowned IPL champions for the first time when they defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight runs.

Opting to bat first, Sunrisers captain David Warner once again led the way as he hammered a magnificent 69, which came off 38 balls and included eight boundaries and three sixes.

With Warner receiving some excellent support from Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh and Ben Cutting, who made 28, 38 and 39 not out respectively, the Sunrisers finished on 208/7 off their 20 overs.

Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Sreenath Aravind snapped up two and Yuzvendra Chahal chipped in with one.

Chasing a mammoth target of 209 to win, Bangalore got off to a brilliant start as Chris Gayle and captain Virat Kohli amassed a 114-run partnership before Gayle was dismissed by Cutting for 76 off 38 balls, which included four boundaries and eight sixes.

Following Kohli’s dismissal, Bangalore’s middle and lower order completely collapsed as they went from 140/2 to 194/7 in the final over.

With none of those batsmen able to surpass the 20-run mark, Bangalore fell agonisingly short of their target and winning the IPL.

Cutting was the most successful bowler with two wickets, while Barinder Sran, Mustafizur Rahman and Bipul Sharma claimed one wicket each.

Cutting was named Man of the Match, while Kohli received the Player of the Series award.
