Mumbai Indians batsman Lendl Simmons will miss the rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after injuring his lower back.

Simmons’ injury is similar to the one that forced him to pull out for a majority of the World Twenty20 in India last month. However, he did represent the West Indies later on in the tournament after Andre Fletcher picked up a hamstring injury.

Simmons played in the semi-final and scored a game-winning 82 not out against India to lead the West Indies into the final, where they went on to register a spectacular come-from-behind win over England and become the first team to win the World Twenty20 twice.

With Simmons out for the remainder of the IPL, the Indians have called up New Zealand opener Martin Guptill as his replacement.
