Ryder has not represented New Zealand since January 2014

Jesse Ryder met New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson after the first Test against Australia in Wellington, but there doesn’t seem to be any sign that he will be returning to the national team.

The flamboyant batsman last played for New Zealand in January 2014 and hasn’t been considered for selection since as he visited a bar with pace bowler Doug Bracewell on the eve of the Test match against India in Auckland.

That incident was the last straw for New Zealand as Ryder had been involved in a number of alcohol-related discipline issues prior to that.

“Jesse had a coffee with a few of us while we were in Wellington. We had a good chat and he was able to tell us how things were going in his life and in his cricket,” Hesson said in a statement. “We often catch up with players around the country. I don’t want to go into any detail of what we talked about but we agreed to keep in touch. We’ll see how things go.”

According to stuff.co.nz, Ryder requested the meeting take place and it was attended by batsman Kane Williamson, pace bowler Tim Southee, team manager Mike Sandle, and Aaron Klee, who had been Ryder’s manager till February 2014. However, it has been reported that Klee is working with Ryder again.
