India batsman Virat Kohli will be rested for the upcoming three-match Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka later this month.

Kohli has been given a break due to India’s busy schedule, which includes appearances at the Asia Cup towards the end of the month and the World Twenty20 next month.

Kohli has been in fantastic form as of late as he highest scorer in India’s 3-0 win over Australia in the recently concluded Twenty20 series. The 27-year-old scored a half-century in each match and subsequently finished with 199 runs at an average of 199.

Meanwhile, India have made a few changes to their squad for the Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka as they have brought in uncapped left-arm spinner Pawan Negi, batsman Manish Pandey and pace bowler Bhuvneswar Kumar, who missed the series against Australia after fracturing his left thumb.

With Negi, Pandey and Kumar coming in, that meant there was no place in the side for Rishi Dhawan, Gurkeerat Singh Mann and Umesh Yadav.

The Twenty20 series between India and Sri Lanka gets underway on February 9 in Pune.

India T20 Squad: Mahendra Singh Dhoni (capt), Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Manish Pandey, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Ashish Nehra, Harbhajan Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Pawan Negi
