The Melbourne Stars booked their spot in the semi-finals of the Big Bash League (BBL) after cruising to a 52-run win over the Perth Scorchers.

Scorchers captain Adam Voges would have been pleased with his decision to bowl first initially as his side managed to restrict the Stars to 146/9 off their 20 overs.

Skipper David Hussey led from the front for the Stars as he made 36, while Rob Quiney and Evan Gulbis were the other two batsmen to surpass 20 runs, with the former making 21 and the latter finishing on 25 not out.

Matt Dixon was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Andrew Tye snapped up two and David Willey, Ashton Turner and Brad Hogg chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 147 to win, the Scorchers struggled right from the get-go as they began to collapse quickly. Had it not been for Voges’ unbeaten innings of 46, which came off 51 balls and included two boundaries, the Scorchers would not have reached 94 before being bowled out.

Ben Hilfenhaus and Daniel Worrall took three wickets each, while Adam Zampa got two and Gulbis and Marcus Stoinis claimed one wicket apiece.

Hilfenhaus was named Man of the Match.
