Broad took his anger out on the pitch after Bavuma was dropped on 77

England pace bowler Stuart Broad has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for showing dissent towards umpire Aleem Dar on the fourth day of the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town.

Broad showed dissent twice in the 195th over and even told Dar to “get on with the game” following a frustrating day for the tourists.

Broad was charged under Article 2.1.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”. He pleaded not guilty to the charge, but it was upheld following a hearing after play concluded on the fourth day.

Broad was also seen kicking the pitch in frustration after wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow dropped a catch that would have dismissed Proteas batsman Temba Bavuma for 77.

Bavuma took full advantage of the extra life he was given and went on to make history as he became the first black African to score a Test century for South Africa.

However, Broad’s actions led to the on-field umpires warning England captain Alastair Cook about the damage the pace bowler had inflicted on the pitch.
