India opening batsman Murali Vijay has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision on the third day of the fourth Test against South Africa in Delhi.

Vijay was given out caught behind after trying to evade a bouncer from South Africa pace bowler Morne Morkel. However, upon walking off, Vijay gestured to Kumar Dharmasena that the ball had struck his arm guard. As a result, he was found guilty of breaching Article 2.1.5 of the International Cricket Council (ICC) code of conduct, which relates to “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”.

The charge against Vijay was levelled by on-field umpires Dharmasena and Bruce Oxenford, and third umpire CK Nandan.
