Melbourne Renegades captain Aaron Finch led from the front as he blasted a superb 60 to lead his side to a five-wicket win over the Hobart Hurricanes.

Finch was well supported by his opening partner Chris Gayle, who hammered a 15-ball 45.

Finch would have been delighted with his decision to bowl first as the Renegades reduced the Hurricanes to 20/3 in the sixth over.

However, Daniel Christian and Ben Dunk stabilised the innings with a 74-run partnership, during which Christian brought up his half-century, before Dunk was caught by Finch at deep midwicket off the bowling of Cameron Gannon for 37.

Christian went on to score 58 off 40 balls, which included four boundaries and three sixes, before he was dismissed by Xavier Doherty.

Thanks to Christian, Dunk and Jonathan Wells’ quickfire 26, the Hurricanes finished on 140/5 off their 20 overs.

Doherty and Gannon picked up two wickets apiece, while Chris Tremain chipped in with one.

Chasing 141 to win, the Renegades got off to a blistering start as Finch and Gayle amassed an 84-run stand before Gayle was caught by Sam Rainbird at deep midwicket off the bowling of Cameron Boyce for 41, which came off 15 balls and included four boundaries and three sixes.

The Renegades began to collapse after Gayle’s dismissal and lost Finch for 60, which came 39 deliveries and included 11 boundaries, in the process.

However, despite going from 84/1 to 139/5, the Renegades still reached their target with six overs to spare.

Boyce was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Rainbird claimed two.

In a rather surprising move, Tremain edged out Finch and Gayle for the Man of the Match award.
