Steyn will not feature in the second Test in Cape Town

South Africa have been dealt a major blow after pace spearhead Dale Steyn was ruled out of the second Test against England in Cape Town due to a shoulder injury.

Steyn injured his shoulder while bowling during the first Test in Durban, which England won by 241 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Proteas captain Hashim Amla confirmed that Steyn would be sidelined for the second Test and added that Kagiso Rabada would take his place in the squad.

Amla also revealed that should seamer Kyle Abbott not recover from a left hamstring injury, Chris Morris or the uncapped Hardus Viljoen will replace him.

“Dale will miss the next Test, and Kyle is pending a fitness test to see if he’s good to go,” Amla said. “Without Dale, Kagiso Rabada will come in. If Kyle is not fit we have to make a decision between Hardus Viljoen and Chris Morris, those are our two options.”

Amla also said that the national selectors will make the final decision on whether they want Quinton de Kock, who was called up for the second Test, to replace AB de Villiers behind the stumps.

“The final call will be made by the selectors,” Amla said. “If Quinny does come in he will take a load off AB and he has also been in very good form with the bat.

“If he does play, the selectors will have to decide who they will leave out. It will be a tough decision, whether it is Faf (Du Plessis) or JP (Duminy) because these have been integral guys in our team for many years.”
