Melbourne Stars opener Luke Wright smashed a sparkling century to help his side take down the Melbourne Renegades by seven wickets.

Stars captain David Hussey would have been content with his decision to bowl first as Cameron White was the only Renegades batsman to have a major impact.

White hammered an entertaining 54 off 39 balls, which included four boundaries and three sixes, while skipper Aaron Finch was the second-highest scorer with 36 runs.

With Matthew Wade being the only other batsman to surpass the 20-run mark, the Renegades finished on 161/7 off their 20 overs.

John Hastings was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Ben Hilfenhaus, Michael Beer and Marcus Stoinis chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 162 to win, Wright took the attack to the Renegades right from the get-go and continued to do so despite losing partners at regular intervals.

Despite the Renegades’ best efforts, the Stars prevailed in the Melbourne derby as Wright led his side across the finish line with five balls to spare.

Wright ended up finishing on 109 not out, which came off 63 balls and included 11 boundaries and four sixes.

Chris Tremain, Dwayne Bravo and Cameron Gannon claimed one wicket each.

Wright was named Man of the Match.
