Melbourne Stars all-rounder Glenn Maxwell smashed a quickfire 50 and batsman Peter Handscomb hammered 52 to lead their side to a five-wicket win over the Sydney Sixers.
Sixers captain Moises Henriques would have been mulling over his decision to bat first as he and Jordan Silk were the only two batsmen to make decent contributions.
Henriques scored 41 off 34 balls, which included four boundaries, before he was forced to retire hurt when he injured his left calf. Silk meanwhile made 35 off 28 deliveries, which included one boundary and a six.
Thanks to Henriques and Silk, the Sixers finished on 139/6 off their 20 overs.
Ben Hilfenhaus picked up two wickets, while Maxwell, Michael Beer, Scott Boland and Adam Zampa chipped in with one wicket apiece.
Chasing 140 to win, the Stars lost Marcus Stoinis and Luke Wright early on before Maxwell and Handscomb amassed an 83-run partnership, during which Maxwell brought up his half-century, before he was caught by Michael Lumb at deep square leg off the bowling of Doug Bollinger.
Maxwell’s entertaining innings of 50 came off 36 balls and included five boundaries.
Handscomb went on to score 52 off 40 deliveries, which included four boundaries and a six, before he was caught by Johan Botha at long-on off the bowling of Sean Abbott.

Despite the loss of Maxwell and Handscomb, the Stars reached their target with eight balls to spare.
Bollinger was the most successful bowler with two wickets, while Abbott, Steve O’Keefe and Jackson Bird claimed one wicket each.
Maxwell was named Man of the Match.
