Sri Lanka batsman could be banned for up to four years after a B sample he submitted tested positive for a banned substance.
Perera initially tested positive in early December after he submitted a random sample in October. However, since the other sample he submitted also tested positive, Perera now faces a lengthy ban from international cricket.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has not commented on the matter thus far as it is an ongoing disciplinary process and nor have they handed down any official punishment.
“We are appealing against this because he was never found like this in the last four instances,” Sri lanka’s sports minister Dayasiri Jayasekera told reporters. “We will back him with legal representation while doing every possible effort to help him to get out of this issue.”
