Perth Scorchers captain Michael Klinger led by example as he smashed an unbeaten 53 to lead his side to a comfortable nine-wicket win over the Brisbane Heat.

Heat skipper Chris Lynn would have been brooding over his decision to bat first as he was the only batsman to have an impact.

Besides Lynn’s 75 not out, which came off 58 balls and included three boundaries and four sixes, opener Jimmy Peirson was the only other batsman to reach double figures. As a result, the Heat were restricted to 117/7 off their 20 overs.

Andrew Tye was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets, while Jason Behrendorff snapped up two and David Willey and Brad Hogg chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 118 to win, the Scorchers got off to a solid start before Marcus Harris was caught by Lynn at mid-off off the bowling of Andrew Fekete for 36.

Harris’ wicket was to be the Heat’s last taste of success for the remainder of the match as Klinger and Ashton Agar finished things off with an unbeaten 70-run partnership, during which Klinger brought up his half-century.

Klinger ended up finishing on 53 off 42 balls, which included four boundaries and a six, while Agar remained undefeated on 24 off 27 deliveries, which included three boundaries.

Fekete was the only bowler to take a wicket.

In a rather surprising move, Willey was named Man of the Match.
