Scans revealed the early stages of a fracture in Gabriel’s ankle

West Indies pace bowler Shannon Gabriel has been ruled out of the ongoing Test match against Australia due to an ankle injury he suffered on the first day.

The West Indies’ team management will decide over the next couple of days whether to send Gabriel home as scans revealed the early stages of a fracture in his ankle.

Gabriel, who arrived at the ground in Hobart on crutches on the second day, is now expected to be out for about six weeks.

Gabriel bowled 10 overs and conceded 59 runs, but did get the wicket of Australia opener Joe Burns. However, his participation in the Test match effectively ended when he did not return after tea on the first day.
