India spinners Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin both took four wickets as South Africa struggled on the first day of the second Test in Bangalore.

India captain Virat Kohli would have been pleased with his decision to bowl first as all the South African batsmen, with the exception of AB de Villiers, who was playing in his 100th Test match, failed to have a major impact with the bat.

De Villiers was the only player to mount some type of offense as he scored 85 off 105 balls, which included 11 boundaries and a six. With the next highest scorer being Dean Elgar with 38, South Africa were skittled out for a dismal score of 214.

Jadeja and Ashwin were responsible for the damage done as they picked up four wickets apiece, while Varun Aaron chipped in with one.

Trailing by 214 runs, India got off to an excellent start as Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay amassed an unbeaten 80-run partnership before stumps was called.

Dhawan finished on 45 off 62 balls, which included seven boundaries, while Vijay remained undefeated on 28 off 73 deliveries, which included five boundaries.

India ended day one on 80/0 and will continue batting tomorrow at 09:30 local time or 04:00 GMT.
