England pace bowler Steven Finn has been ruled out of the ongoing series against Pakistan due to a stress injury in his left foot.
Fellow pace bowler Chris Jordan, who has not represented England since June, will replace Finn in both the Test and ODI squads.
Finn’s injury is expected to take approximately two months to heal, which means that he could be fully fit when the national team travel to South Africa in December.
But, for Finn, the injury is a major setback, especially after his superb performance against Australia in the recent Ashes series. Finn marked his comeback to the Test squad after 18 months with figures of 6 for 79 at Edgbaston and went on to finish the series with 12 wickets at a brilliant average of 22.50.
England all-rounder Ben Stokes admitted that he felt bad for the 26-year-old and added that Finn would have played a huge role throughout the series.
“Since’s he’s come back into the team this summer he’s been the leader in one-day cricket then when he came into the Ashes he blew away Australia,” Stokes said. “He’s started off well here so for the lads who have seen him progress so well from Australia it’s pretty heartbreaking. The other seam bowlers who aren’t in this game could have a role to play, I think he would have been one of the first names in the hat so it’s not great timing. I feel pretty sorry for him.”
