India opener Cheteshwar Pujara scored an unbeaten 135 to ensure his side were not bowled out for a dismal score on the second day of the third Test against Sri Lanka in Colombo.

Pujara was well supported by spinner Amit Mishra, who made an entertaining 59.

Starting off the day on 50/2, Pujara continued to plough on even though India lost wickets at regular intervals. The tourists eventually found themselves in a serious spot of bother when they were reduced to 180/7.

However, Pujara and Mishra kept Sri Lanka at bay with a 104-run stand before Mishra was stumped off the bowling of Rangana Herath for 59 off 87 balls, which included seven boundaries.

Pujara and Ishant Sharma only managed to amass an eight-run partnership before the heavens parted. Due to the rain refusing to relent, the umpires had no choice but to bring play to an end for the day.

Pujara finished on 135 off 277 balls, which included 13 boundaries, while Sharma remained undefeated on two.

Dhammika Prasad was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Herath, Nuwan Pradeep, Tharindu Kaushal and captain Angelo Mathews claimed one wicket each.

India ended day two on 292/8 and will continue batting tomorrow at 09:45 local time, 04:15 GMT.
