South Africa batsman Faf du Plessis will be out of action for approximately four weeks as he is still recovering from a knee injury.
Du Plessis did not feature in the recently concluded two-match Twenty20 series against New Zealand, which ended as a 1-1 draw. He will also miss the ongoing three-match ODI series, in which the Proteas have taken a 1-0 lead after winning the first ODI in Centurion on Wednesday by 20 runs thanks to opener Hashim Amla’s 124.
“It’s frustrating for me because I feel good and in form,” du Plessis, who is set to be fit for South Africa’s upcoming tour of India in October, said while commentating during the first ODI. “Brandon Jackson, the physiotherapist, said I will need about three or four weeks of no running at all and then can get back into training.”
This is the second major injury du Plessis has suffered in the last couple of months as he broke his finger while playing during the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year. Du Plessis continued to play despite the injury and even represented the Proteas during their recent tour of Bangladesh.
“At Chennai, my nickname is Ferrari because everything looks pretty good on the outside but there’s not much going on on the inside,” he said.
