India opener Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka after sustaining a hairline fracture to his right hand.
Dhawan, who suffered the injury during the first Test in Galle, underwent scans recently, which confirmed the fracture. As a result, Dhawan will be sidelined for approximately four to six weeks.
Dhawan’s injury is a major blow for India as he made scores of 134 and 28 despite batting with a bruised hand in the first Test.
India are already 1-0 down in the series after suffering a humiliating 63-run loss in the first Test, which occurred when they were skittled out for 112 when chasing 176 to win.
With Dhawan out of the picture for the rest of the series, India’s batsmen will have to step up and put up a strong performance if the tourists want to have any chance of levelling the series.
The second Test between Sri Lanka and India will begin on August 20 at the P Sara Oval in Colombo.
