Police in Pakistan have arrested a man who is thought to be connected to the road rage incident that led to an unidentified individual opening fire on legendary Pakistan left-arm seamer Wasim Akram’s car.

The man arrested is believed to be the driver of the car that rammed into Akram’s vehicle.

The incident took place on August 5 when Akram was on his way to a training camp at Karachi’s National Stadium. After Akram’s car was hit, the 49-year-old asked the driver to pull over, upon where a heated argument occurred. Things quickly escalated when the unidentified individual in the back seat of the other car opened fire on Akram’s Mercedes.

“The police have detained one suspect after raid on his home in Quaidabad’s Daud Chowrangi locality,” DIG Karachi-East Zone Munir Ahmed Shaikh was quoted as saying by Dawn News.

Explaining what happened after he arrived at the National Stadium, Akram had said: “A car hit mine. I stopped him and then this guy stepped out and fired at my car. He was definitely an official. I have noted the number of the car and given it to the police. If he can do this to me, what will he do to the common man?”
