The Barbados Tridents have confirmed that Pakistan Test captain Misbah-ul-Haq will replace compatriot Shoaib Malik for the remainder of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

While Pakistan have yet to select their squad for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka, Malik’s departure indicates that he is highly likely to be selected.

Malik has scored 127 runs in four matches at an average of 63.50 and will play his last game for the Tridents when they take on the St Lucia Zouks on July 3.

“Shoaib has been fantastic in the CPL so it’s a shame to lose him, but we’re delighted that he’s back in the Pakistan squad and we wish him every success in the upcoming series,” CPL director Tom Moody said. “Misbah is one of the most respected cricketers in the world, and we’re sure he’ll be an excellent addition to the Tridents squad.”

Ul-Haq has represented Pakistan in 39 Twenty20 Internationals and scored 788 runs, which includes three half-centuries, at an average of 37.52.
