Barbados Tridents opener Dwayne Smith hammered 56 runs to lead his side to a 16-run win over the Jamaica Tallawahs.

Tridents captain Kieron Pollard would have been pleased with his decision to bat first as Smith began to dominate right from the beginning.

Smith surpassed his half-century in good time and was on track for a bigger score before he was clean bowled by Andre Russell for 56 off 53 balls, which included five boundaries and two sixes.

Following Smith’s dismissal, Pakistan all-rounder Shoaib Malik took over as he smashed an unbeaten 43 off 29 deliveries, which included three sixes, to help the Tridents finish on 161/4 off their 20 overs.

Russell, Jerome Taylor, Krishmar Santokie and Rusty Theron picked up one wicket each.

Chasing 162 to win, the Tallawahs did not get off to a great start as skipper Chris Gayle was dismissed for just nine runs.

With Gayle having failed to fire, Chris Lynn kept the Tridents at bay for a short while with his knock of 37. But, once he was back in the pavilion, the only other batsman to make a valuable contribution was Horace Miller, who scored 30.

As a result of the Tallawahs’ end of innings collapse, the Tridents were able to claim their second victory in two games.

Robin Peterson was the most successful bowler with three wickets, while Pollard, Ravi Rampaul and Rayad Emrit claimed two wickets apiece.

Rather surprisingly, Peterson edged out Smith for the Man of the Match award.
