Persistent rain led to the second match of the Caribbean Premier League between the St Lucia Zouks and Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel being abandoned.

The Zouks got off to a solid start after being put in to bat, but it was Andre Fletcher and Kevin Pietersen’s 70-run partnership that put them in the driver’s seat.

Pietersen ended up making a quickfire 42, which came off 26 balls and included three boundaries and three sixes, while Fletcher smashed 57 off 49 deliveries, which included five boundaries and two sixes, as the Zouks finished on 179/6 off their 20 overs.

Jacques Kallis was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Samuel Badree and Kevon Cooper chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 180 to win, the Red Steel could only amass 10 runs before the heavens parted and the players were ushered off the field.

With the rain refusing to relent, the umpires had no choice but to call the match off.

Since the match ended up being washed out, both teams received one point.
