Persistent rain led to the opening day of the first Test between Sri Lanka and Pakistan in Galle being abandoned.
Not a single ball was bowled on the first day and even the toss was unable to take place due to the dreary conditions.
With the overhead conditions becoming bleaker as the day wore on, both teams remained at the hotel, while the groundstaff kept the covers on even when the rain eased up as they knew it was only a matter of time before it returned.
Since no play was possible on the first day, the last four days of the Test will start 15 minutes earlier and the second session will be extended by 15 minutes.
