Uncapped Somerset all-rounder Craig Overton has been drafted into the England side for the third ODI against New Zealand after pace bowler Chris Jordan suffered a side strain during the second match at The Oval on Friday.

Despite being unable to complete his 10 overs, Jordan still equalled the most expensive bowling spell by an England bowler in ODIs as he finished with figures of 1-97 off nine overs.

Jordan did go off the field for treatment after he sustained the injury, but did return to score an unbeaten three runs as England fell 13 runs short of their target, which was revised after the Duckworth-Lewis method came into play.

“Sides are funny ones with bowlers, you don’t know how bad it is until the scans come through,” England captain Eoin Morgan said after the game. “He’s going to be a doubt.”

Overton has enjoyed a lot of success in the ongoing county season as he has taken 20 wickets in four County Championship matches at a brilliant average of 18.05.
