England opener Adam Lyth has revealed that he was over the moon when he scored his maiden Test hundred on the second day of the second Test against New Zealand at Headingley.

Lyth added that scoring his century in front of his home fans made it that much more special.

“It was a fantastic moment for myself and my family,” he told Sky Sports. “I was very pleased to get three figures in front of my home crowd.

“I was a bit nervous. They did bowl very well – I had to wait my time. It was a great moment and one that I will never forget.

“I was more nervous this game than making my debut – I don’t know why. Hopefully there are many more games to come.”
