Former Sri Lanka coach Trevor Bayliss is widely tipped to become England’s new head coach.

There was a lot of speculation that current Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie would be named as Peter Moores’ successor, but Bayliss has emerged as a surprise choice.

Bayliss, who currently coaches New South Wales, is one of the most experienced and well-travelled coaches in the game.

While the Australian media has reported that Bayliss is on track to take charge of England, there has been no comment from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) or Bayliss himself.

In addition to coaching Sri Lanka, Bayliss also guided the Sydney Sixers to victory in the inaugural Big Bash League (BBL) and the Kolkata Knight Riders to the Indian Premier League (IPL) title in 2012.

His latest international coaching stint came in November last year when he led Australia’s Twenty20 squad to a 2-1 win over South Africa.
