Pakistan’s batting duo of Younis Khan and Azhar Ali both made centuries to keep their side in total control over Bangladesh on the first day of the second Test in Dhaka.
Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim would have been delighted with his decision to bowl first early on as Mohammad Hafeez and Sami Aslam were both dismissed cheaply.
However, Khan and Ali took over from that point on as they amassed a 250-run partnership, during which Khan brought up his 29th Test century and Ali his eighth, before Khan was caught by Shuvagata Hom at gully off the bowling of Mohammad Shahid.
Khan’s brilliant knock of 148 came off 195 balls and included 11 boundaries and three sixes.
Ali and Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq put together an unbeaten 15-run partnership before stumps was called.
Ali finished on 127 off 258 balls, which included 13 boundaries, while ul-Haq remained undefeated on nine off 18 deliveries, which included a six.
