Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and batsman Sabbir Rahman both made half-centuries to help their side crush Pakistan by seven wickets in the one-off Twenty20 International in Mirpur.

Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi would have been regretting his decision to bat first since none of his batsmen were able to make any major contributions.

Debutant Mukhtar Ahmed top-scored for Pakistan as he made 37 off 30 balls, which included five boundaries and a six.

Ahmed was well supported by Haris Sohail, who made 30 off 24 deliveries, which included one six, as Pakistan finished on 141/5 off their 20 overs.

Debutant Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Arafat Sunny and Taskin Ahmed chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 142 to win, Bangladesh lost debutant Soumya Sarkar, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim in quick succession.

Despite struggling at 38/3, Al Hasan and Sabbir Rahman finished things off with an unbeaten 105-run partnership, during which both batsmen brought up their half-centuries.

Al Hasan ended up making 57 off 41 balls, which included nine boundaries, while Rahman remained undefeated on 51 off 32 deliveries, which included seven boundaries and a six.

Umar Gul and Wahab Riaz claimed one wicket each.

Afridi was disgusted with his team’s performance, and said: “I want to congratulate Bangladesh. They have great momentum, especially in home conditions. I think our team is balanced in Test cricket. Misbah and Younis will be back for Tests. I would love to come back to Bangladesh.”

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza was ecstatic to have won the Twenty20 series, and said: “Nice moment for us. We have been waiting for this for the past 6-7 months. We have been working hard. I am sure that the boys will deliver in the Tests too. I am going alright [on his fitness].”

Sabbir Rahman was named Man of the Match, and said: “I enjoyed batting and I am very happy. This is my first fifty and I dedicate it to my family. Credit to our coaching staff. Hopefully, we win the Test series.”
