West Indies opener Kraigg Brathwaite scored an unbeaten 101 to keep England at bay following Joe Root’s knock of 182 not out on the fourth day of the second Test in Grenada.

Brathwaite was well supported by batsman Darren Bravo, who made 69.

Starting off the day on 373/6, England’s lower order completely collapsed, while Root stood his ground and amassed as many runs as he could before running out of partners.

Root ended up making 182 not out, which came off 229 balls and included 17 boundaries and four sixes, as England were bowled out for 464.

Devendra Bishoo was the pick of the bowlers with four wickets, while Shannon Gabriel snapped up two and Marlon Samuels chipped in with one.

Trailing by 165 runs, the West Indies got off to a horrible start as opener Devon Smith was clean bowled by James Anderson for two runs.

Brathwaite and Bravo made up for the early loss of Smith with a 142-run partnership, during which both batsmen brought up their half-centuries, before Bravo was caught behind off the bowling of Stuart Broad.

Bravo’s excellent knock of 69 came off 147 balls and included 12 boundaries.

Brathwaite and Samuels amassed an unbeaten 57-run partnership, during which Brathwaite registered his fourth Test century, before stumps was called.

Brathwaite finished on 101 off 230 balls, which included 11 boundaries, while Samuels remained undefeated on 22 off 67 deliveries, which included two boundaries.

Anderson and Broad claimed one wicket each.

The West Indies ended day four on 202/2 and will continue batting tomorrow at 10:00 local time or 14:00 GMT.
