England ripped through the West Indies’ top and middle order to put themselves in a commanding position at the end of the first day of the second Test in Grenada.
However, West Indies all-rounder Marlon Samuels kept England at bay towards the end of the day as he scored an unbeaten 94.
England captain Alastair Cook would have been pleased with his decision to bowl first following a lengthy rain delay since Kraigg Brathwaite, Devon Smith, Darren Bravo and Shivnarine Chanderpaul were all dismissed at regular intervals.
Samuels and Jermaine Blackwood stemmed the bleeding with a 55-run partnership before Blackwood was given out lbw off the bowling of Chris Jordan for 26.
Blackwood was not given out initially, but Cook decided to review the decision. Unfortunately for Blackwood, replays showed that the ball was pitching in line and going on to hit leg stump. This led to the third umpire overturning the original decision.
Samuels and West Indies skipper Denesh Ramdin kept the runs flowing with an unbeaten 59-run partnership, during which Samuels surpassed his half-century, before bad light brought play to an end earlier than expected.
Samuels finished on 94 off 186 balls, which included 13 boundaries, while Ramdin remained undefeated on six off 35 deliveries, which included one boundary.

The West Indies ended day one on 188/5 and will continue batting tomorrow at 10:00 local time or 14:00 GMT.
