Batsman Jonathan Trott is set to make his international comeback after he was included in the England squad for their tour of the West Indies next month.

Trott has not played any international cricket ever since he left midway through the 2013-14 Ashes series against Australia with a stress-related illness.

It has also been announced that the uncapped trio of Adam Lyth, Adil Rashid and Mark Wood have been included in the squad.

Pace bowler Chris Woakes and all-rounder Moeen Ali were not drafted into the side since both of them are nursing injuries.

There was no place for batsman James Taylor, nor opener Sam Robson.

However, all-rounder Ben Stokes will make his return to international cricket after being snubbed for the World Cup.

“This series marks the start of a busy period of Test match cricket for the England team, and I am sure that Alastair and the players will all be keen to build on the success they enjoyed last summer against India,” national selector James Whitaker said. “Jonathan Trott produced some outstanding performances for Warwickshire last summer, scoring five centuries, and also made an unbeaten double hundred during the recent successful England Lions tour. He is a player of proven international pedigree and we are delighted to welcome him back into the squad.

“Adam, Adil and Mark are all players who have performed impressively over the last 12 months, and they will now have an opportunity to push for a regular place in the Test side’s starting line-up.”

England will play two warm-up matches in St Kitts before their three-Test series against the West Indies gets underway in Antigua on April 13.
