India head coach Duncan Fletcher was not present to watch his side dominate the United Arab Emirates by nine wickets since he travelled to Cape Town to attend his father-in-law’s funeral.

Fletcher is expected to join up with the Indian team prior to their match against the West Indies on March 6.

“Duncan has left for Cape Town to attend the funeral of his father-in-law,” a spokesman for the Indian team said.

This is the second time Fletcher has left during a tournament due to a family bereavement. The first occurred during the 2013 Champions Trophy in England following the death of his mother.
