South Africa pace bowler Vernon Philander will go for scans on Monday after injuring his hamstring during the Proteas’ 130-run loss to India at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Sunday.

Philander only bowled four overs and was off the field for a majority of the match. However, he did return to bat, but failed to score a single run as he was given out lbw off the bowling of India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

After going off the field initially, Philander returned for a short while before leaving for the remainder of the innings.

Until the results of the scans are known, South Africa will not be able to confirm whether Philander will be fit for their match against the West Indies in Sydney on Friday.
