Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) have confirmed that coaching consultant Rumesh Ratnayake will hold on to his position until the end of the World Cup.
Ratnayake, who began his temporary stint with Sri Lanka on February 4, was not supposed to work with the national team beyond February 20. However, after Sri Lanka lost both their warm-up matches and their World Cup opener against New Zealand, SLC have decided to extend his contract.
Ratnayake will primarily work with Sri Lanka’s bowling attack since they struggled to take wickets against New Zealand and conceded far too many runs as well.
Sri Lanka’s next World Cup match will be against Afghanistan on February 22 in Dunedin.
