Sri Lanka wicketkeeper-batsman Kumar Sangakkara has surpassed former Australia captain Ricky Ponting as the second-highest run-scorer in ODI history.
Sangakkara surpassed Ponting’s record during Sri Lanka’s World Cup match against New Zealand on February 14.
Sangakkara reached the milestone when he flicked a delivery from New Zealand pace bowler Adam Milne down the leg side for a boundary.
Sangakkara, who has scored 13,732 ODI runs, now only trails legendary India batsman Sachin Tendulkar, who made 18,426 ODI runs during his illustrious career.
