India pace bowler Ishant Sharma has been ruled out of the World Cup due to a knee injury he picked up during the recent Test series against Australia.
Sharma sustained the injury during the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne and, although he was picked for India’s tri-series match against Australia which ended up being abandoned due to rain, his injury started to flare up once again.
It has been confirmed that Sharma will return to India early next week.
However, India will be pleased to hear that batsman Rohit Sharma has recovered from his hamstring injury and pace bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar no longer has any pain in his left ankle.
“I will be playing the warm-ups and am good to go,” Sharma said. “I had issues with my hamstring but over the past few days I have been working on it and recovered well thanks to the medical staff. Injuries are part of the game and out of your control. What I can control is my confidence and preparations ahead of the World Cup.”
