New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson will miss part of the ongoing ODI series against Sri Lanka after succumbing to a minor shoulder injury.

Williamson suffered the injury when he dove and fell on his shoulder during the first Test in Christchurch.

New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson has revealed that Williamson will be out of action for the next “7-10 days”, which means that he is likely to return during the fifth ODI on January 23 in Dunedin.

“Kane is obviously a very important player for us and we need to give his shoulder the time to fully recover,” Hesson said. “He’s played a lot of cricket of late and this window will allow him to get back to 100%.”
