Fans at the Adelaide Oval were left frustrated and disappointed after heavy rain led to the highly-anticipated match between the Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder being abandoned.

After a lengthy rain delay at the beginning of the match, the umpires had no choice but to cut the match down to 10 overs per side.

Thunder captain Chris Hartley would have been pleased with his decision to bowl first after Strikers opener Tim Ludeman was caught behind off the bowling of Josh Lalor for four runs.

Jono Dean only made seven runs before he was caught by Jacques Kallis at deep midwicket off the bowling of Gurinder Sandhu.

Craig Simmons scored 21 runs before he was caught by Daniel Hughes at long-off off the bowling of Chris Tremain.

Travis Head made a quickfire 18 before he was clean bowled by Ian Moran.

Ryan ten Doeschate managed to make 23 runs before he was caught by Jason Roy at midwicket off the bowling of Tremain.

Thanks to Alex Ross’ entertaining knock of 30, which came off 11 balls and included four sixes, the Strikers finished on 119/5 off their 10 overs.

Tremain was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets, while Sandhu, Lalor and Moran chipped in with one wicket apiece.

Chasing 120 to win, the Thunder got off to a brisk start before the heavens parted once again.

With the rain refusing to relent, the match was abandoned. As a result of this, both teams received a point.
