A spectacular all-round performance by Jacques Kallis saw the Sydney Thunder ease past the Perth Scorchers by 20 runs at the WACA.
However, Scorchers batsman Michael Carberry deserves some credit for his valiant knock of 69.
Thunder captain Michael Hussey would have been brooding over his decision to bat first after opening batsman Andrew McDonald was caught by Michael Klinger at short midwicket off the bowling of Jason Behrendorff for seven runs.
Kallis and Aiden Blizzard made up for the early loss of McDonald with a 74-run partnership before Blizzard was caught by Behrendorff at mid-off off the bowling of Andrew Tye for 47.
Kallis went on to make 70 off 49 balls, which included nine boundaries and two sixes, before he was caught by Ashton Turner at long-on off the bowling of Ashton Agar.
Thanks to Hussey’s quickfire knock of 36, the Thunder finished on 179/3 off their 20 overs.
Behrendorff, Tye and Agar picked up one wicket apiece.
Chasing 180 to win, the Scorchers got off to an awful start as Klinger was clean bowled by Nathan Hauritz for 10 runs.
Marcus Harris scored 14 runs before he was cleaned up by Josh Lalor.
Scorchers skipper Adam Voges failed to save his team as he was caught by Lalor at third man off the bowling of Kallis.
Kallis struck again just four balls later when Turner was caught by Hussey at slip for a duck.
Carberry and Sam Whiteman somewhat stemmed the bleeding with a 50-run partnership before Whiteman was stumped by Chris Hartley off the bowling of Hauritz for 16.
Despite an unbeaten 68-run partnership between Carberry and Agar, the Scorchers ended up falling 20 runs short of their target.
Carberry scored 69 off 48 balls, which included eight boundaries and a six, while Agar remained undefeated on 31 off 27 deliveries, which included one boundary and a six.

Kallis and Hauritz snapped up two wickets each, while Lalor claimed one.
Kallis was named Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
