South Africa have picked all-rounder Jean Paul (JP) Duminy and spinner Aaron Phangiso for the upcoming Twenty20 series against the West Indies.

However, Cricket South Africa released a statement saying that Duminy, who is currently nursing a knee injury, “will not play the first two matches but should be available for selection for the third”.

Since Duminy will miss the first two Twenty20 Internationals, batsman Faf du Plessis will take over as captain.

Phangiso meanwhile is set to be available for all three matches.

South Africa have also called up wicketkeeper-batsman Morne van Wyk as a replacement for Quinton de Kock, who will miss the series after he tore a ligament in his ankle during the first Test in Centurion.

Van Wyk has not represented South Africa in any of the three formats since the 2011 World Cup.

In addition to van Wyk, South Africa have also drafted Reeza Hendricks, Rilee Rossouw and Kagiso Rabada into the side.

“Once again we are resting a number of senior players who are involved across all three formats,” Cricket South Africa’s convener of selectors Andrew Hudson said. “This will be the last chance to rest them before we get into World Cup mode with the Momentum ODI Series against the West Indies.”

South Africa T20 squad: Faf du Plessis (captain), Kyle Abbott, Farhaan Behardien, Marchant de Lange, JP Duminy, Reeza Hendricks, Imran Tahir, David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Aaron Phangiso, Kagiso Rabada, Rilee Rossouw, Morne van Wyk, David Wiese
