Pullar will forever hold the record of being the first Lancastrian to score a Test century on his home ground

Former England batsman Geoff Pullar has passed away at the age of 79.

Pullar, who was a tall left-hander, made his debut in 1959 and went on to represent England in 28 Tests. During his Test career, Pullar scored 1,974 runs, which included four centuries and 12 half-centuries, at a brilliant average of 43.86.

Just one year into his Test career, Pullar was bestowed with the honour of being named as one of Wisden’s Cricketers of the Year.

Pullar also played 400 first-class games and amassed 21,528 runs at a solid average of 35.34.

Despite starting off as a middle order batsman, Pullar was quickly promoted to the top of the order and he responded by scoring 75 against India at Headingley and 131 against the same opposition at Old Trafford.

Pullar’s final match for England came against Australia in Adelaide in January 1963.
