England batsman Eoin Morgan has revealed that he missed 20 calls from national selector James Whitaker when being offered the ODI captaincy.
Morgan replaced Alastair Cook as ODI captain following England’s 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Sri Lanka in the recently concluded seven-match ODI series.
“I thought I better give him a ring and he said ‘we’d like to offer you the captaincy’,” Morgan said. “I was delighted to be asked. Being offered the captaincy is awesome.
“It’s a huge honour to lead an extremely talented group of guys during a really exciting period.”
