Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden has announced that “it’s ludicrous” that Kevin Pietersen “isn’t in the England side”.

Pietersen, who is currently representing the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League (BBL), was axed from the national team following England’s 5-0 whitewashing at the hands of Australia in the last Ashes series.

“I think it’s ludicrous that Kevin isn’t in the England side. That’s just crazy,” Hayden said. “One thing that I really love about him in the Big Bash League is his innovation. World Cups are won on innovative batting.”
