Phil Whitticase will leave Leicestershire after spending 31 years as a player, coach and the county’s director of cricket.

Whitticase decided to leave after Leicestershire, who have not won a County Championship match since 2012, appointed former Australia all-rounder Andrew McDonald as their new head coach and made the director of cricket position redundant in October.

“We would like to thank Phil for his fantastic service to Leicestershire over the last 31 years,” Leicestershire chairman Paul Haywood said. “Phil has been a loyal servant of the Club and worked tirelessly for us over the years at Grace Road. We wish him every success in the future.”
